Ruweida Al Mahrouqi and Understated Makeup

Singer Ruweida Al Mahrouqi is the ambassador for Marico’s new ‘Parachute Gold’ hair care products and you can see why that would be the case.

In the clip above, she shows a nicely understated arabic makeup that is not as hard to capture for yourself as many others we see.

Mohamad kadry (kadry@khaleejtimes.com) / 26 April 2012

To put it gently, Ruweida Al Mahrouqi is unique. The UAE singer has smashed through stereotypes and unabashedly challenged critics who have deemed her music and lifestyle inappropriate. With a bubbly personality that’s infectious and a genuine sincerity that is almost impossible to come across in the Arabic music industry, Al Mahrouqi is all about putting on a good show. Her image, she says, is just an act and her only concern is entertaining the fans. We sit down with her in a candid talk about her past and how she’s managed to outsmart the cynics.

“I have basically no makeup on, I stay very casual, I avoid being flashy and I like comfortable clothes. You’ll most likely see me in jeans, a top and sandals. If I want to get a little bit more dressy towards the evening it will still be jeans, but with maybe high heels and a fancier top. But I’m definitely into sporty chic.”

“Once I have the make-up on and the hair up something goes wrong! I’m quiet and calm in real life; I avoid being flashy. On TV I have to shine.”

sasakiasahi: Arabic Makeup – Collaboration with KlairedelysArt

AsahiSasaki is a model and a dancer on the side and a Makeup videos star on YouTube.

She covers many different styles of makeup and is certainly on the theatrical side of presentation.

She learned her craft from some of the top Youtube presenters and from fashion magazines.

The Japanese say family names first so her channel is named “sasakiasahi”.

Her videos show reasonably priced beauty products she buys herself.

And I thought her approach (although a bit showy) still has some good stuff. See what you think.

Dark Green Arabic/Indian Inspired Makeup

I found this interesting video from Australian girl, makemestunning, which she published on May 3, 2012 over at youtube.

It’s not an authentic “arabic makeup” tutorial, she makes it clear that it is inspired by Arabic and Indian styles that are sweeping the west – did you see any of the Oscars video coverage?

I heard a few ideas (using the same brush for mixing two colors, for instance) that got me thinking.

And that’s why I wanted you to see it. Of course, no two so-called Arabic makeup tutorials will be the same (boring) – we all add our own personalities and even then we are usually trying variations so we don’t bore ourselves.

makemestunning gives a very clear rundown of where she takes the look and I think many of you will be interested to see her approach and you will get some good ideas to apply in your way.

She gives a clear explanation of the products and steps she takes. I’m going to list them here so you can see if they are on sale over at Amazon.

Enjoy.

Your Questions About Arab Women Eyes

Lizzie asks…

Why do black women, east indian and arab women have the same eye shape?

Why do they have the same eye shape/size? they have very pretty eyes.

Shahni answers:

I agree… They’ve got beautiful big almond shaped eyes.

Lisa asks…

Does the average man in the USA find arab women attractive?

I think arab women are extremely sexy with beautiful eyes and noses but they seemed to be underrated in terms of men’s idea of beauty especially white men

Shahni answers:

No they dont sorry….most guys like half white andc half mexican girls like me….so its unusal…

Steven asks…

How do I get “Sexy Arabic Eyes?”?

How do Arab women line their eyes? Is there any special trick to it? I have tried to line the bottom and top of my eyes with a black kohl liner and it doesn’t look like that at all. I also have a problem with lining the bottom and/or inside of my eyes…it seems to smear and go away within minutes.

Shahni answers:

Practice, practice, practice, I am an Arab, I am a professional make up artist, and a make up junkie, and I didn`t achieve the ability to do this look till after ALOT of practicing, so go to youtube, look for Arabic Eye make up, watch it over, and over, and over, etc…and I`ll help you:

1. Moisturize your eyes with an eye cream.
2. Use an eyeshadow primer, or an eye make up base.
3. Put on your eyeshadow, base colour, crease colour, darkest colour, and highlighter. (it`s too long to explain, and it`s late at night here in Kuwait, and I am tired so I won`t tell you the details now, sorry).
4. Line your water line with SHISEIDO eye pencil (Soooooooo black it`s almost blue).
5. Line your upper lashline with the same pencil and then draw on the same line that you did on your upper lashline with the liquid liner again by SHISEIDO.
6. Add fake lashes.
7. SMOKEY LASH MASCARA by MAKE UP FOREVER PROFESSIONAL never an Arabian eye look is perfect without it.
8. I just remembered before the no. 4. Use a neutral eye pencil such as TAUPE by L`OREAL and draw a small line UNDER your waterline even if it`s not perfect don`t worry it`s invisible and we only use it because it`s creamy and we need it so when we add an eyeshadow it grabbs to it and doesn`t smear (for this particular detali I DO recommend that you go to youtube, look for XSPARKAGE.COM, watch a video that is called, ” FALL INSPIRED EYES WITH EARTH GODDES MINERALS”, and you don`t have to do copy the colour only the method is important, and remember you do this before n. 4.

And remember your morphology is really important, especially your eyes, I mean if your eyes are blue, you can do the Arabian method but NEVER with black, with Grey, if your eyes are green then use the Brown etc…

After everything is done then add the bronzer, and a fleshtone blush, an Amber lipcolour and you are good to go.

Ok, though this was long but not enough, but this is the problem with the Arabian look too long to explain.

So, If you need my help again please don`t hesitate, I`ll be more than happy to help, and sorry again for the inconvenience.

Hope that helped.

Good Luck.

Good Bye.

P.S. Watch all the videos by XSPARKAGE.COM, she`s the best ever, and recently did a video called ARABIAN NIGHTS, but It`s not what we Arab women do when it comes to eye make up.

And oh, by the way don`t worry about the time you spend in front of the mirror, you should come here and what we Arab women do to our eye make up and how much time we spend, but NEVER an Arabian eye look is perfect without perfectly shaped eyebrows, and dark as well.

Your Questions About Makeup Arab

Robert asks…

What is the racial makeup of England?

I’m American and was wondering what the racial makeup of England was, I keep hearing that Arabs are starting to outnumber them. Like here in America, with Mexicans and Africans…? I’m not making racist comments by the way I’m just curious. That reminds me, are there racist people in England, like a noticeable amount?
like can someone give me a % estimate…? :P

Gaz answers:

You are very ill informed. Arabs? There are some, but we have few historical links with them.
We are NOT racist in BRITAIN (there is more to our land than just England. Do they teach BASIC geography in the US?!!!) as some of us do have roots elsewhere. We, unlike Americans, do NOT get obsessed with race and ethnicity. It is tacky. Countries like the UK, France, Netherlands and Portugal have a colonial past. Read up about it before trying to rock our boat, and put your own dysfunctional house in order?!

Ken asks…

why do arab boys stare?

why do they stare at me? im just normal girl in abu dhabi who just wears abaya im arab. they stare at like every girl that goes past. no i dont dress immodestly cuz i wear abaya and no i dont really wear any makeup. someone said its cuz its hard for them to get girls? because i find western guys much different. i know this whole staring everything is in like every culture.. but ?

Faoudhi answers:

Ok you said you’re arab you should know this answer for your question don’t pretend you know nothing about your culture and it doesn’t matter where you were born and grew up you will still know about your people and culture .

As to your question in western countries people are taught about sexuality this is not hidden in boxes but in muslim countries you cannot talk about sexuality openly because it’s against their culture which makes people more curios they want to know whats under that abaya ans also in most muslim cultures you can’t have sex before marriage again this is against their beliefs

Michael asks…

Is this being racist towards white women?

If white women are better them Black women why is this:Why is the most common interracial relationship with Hispanic men with Black women? Why do Arab men love Ethiopian women?White women are loved by only WHITE and Asian men. Also if white women are better than black, why do white women have so many surgeries and wear so much makeup? Why don’t White women have anything that attracts men?

For all the people who think White women are better than Black women.

Borze answers:

Yes it is because you said that only white and asian men like white women.

So you’re trying to tell me you’ve never seen a ghetto black guy with a fat white girl before?

Mhm. Thats what i thought. Get an education you ignorant… Or as you might say “ignit” waste of skin.

Daniel asks…

What is Obama’s actual racial makeup?

What i have seen posted is:

50% White
35% Arab
15% Black African

Is this true, or is it something else?

Harhi answers:

50% Socialist
25% Marxist
24% Communist
1% (that crap about “hope” and “change”)

David asks…

REALLY? Somali (black) girls who drink alcohol, wear tight jeans & makeup and go to nightclubs are muslim now?

Thats news to me. The media is calling them muslim, they certainly aren’t practicing muslims, and they certainly aren’t arab. I find it odd that the media is so fixated on the word ‘muslim’ as to use the word in every single headline concerning this story. The world ‘black girl gang’ instead of ‘muslim girl gang’ would have been more accurate….. but thats racist, right? but discriminating against muslims is perfectly okay, because hey, we’re the new jews.

The girls were not muslim because:
-the word muslim has a racial connotation to arabs, the girls were black

-were not wearing a headscarf but instead tight jeans, makeup and heels like a western woman

-No father, brother, uncle or any other male escort in sight

-Attending a nightclub (muslims do not mingle with the opposite gender)

-Extremely intoxicated (muslims do not drink, the punishment for consuming alcohol under sharia law is death )

Benna answers:

So you are the new Jews are you? I would remember what happened to the Jews in Europe in WW2. At least they had not tried to impose their religion, culture etc on th countries they lived in unlike muslims with their continual demands and refusal to integrate into the countries they decide to emigrate to.
If the 4 girls did not want to be portrayed as muslims then they should not have pulled this card out of the hat in their defence of a racist attack.
